Warframe community director affirms ‘nothing in our games will be AI-generated’

In a recent interview, Megan Everett shared frustration with the current media environment in relation to AI.

In a recent interview, Warframe Community Director Megan Everett stressed that developer Digital Extremes will never use generative AI in its games.

Everett shared as much in a conversation with GameSpot, speaking to frustrations in dealing with the trend and the difficulty of navigating generative AI in community functions.

We stream every Thursday, and we always show off fan art and stuff from the community. One time, someone made art of what looked like a Warframe Gundam, and I thought it was so cool, so I showed it. Immediately, everyone watching the stream clocked it, and I was devastated. It was so damn sneaky… I literally don’t even want to open any type of timeline and look at art because I’m like, ‘Am I being fooled?’ I literally don’t know if what I’m looking at is real, and I get so frustrated about it, it’s so annoying. I’m very passionate about not having any of that sh**. Nothing in our games will be AI-generated. Ever.

Everett is one of many in creative fields that have shared such frustration, with a growing number of instances having legal implications. Games like Crimson Desert and Divinity have caught flak for leaving AI-generated placeholder content in their games. Meanwhile, Capcom and Take-Two have pushed back against adoption of the tech in any creative endeavors.

With Warframe and Soulframe firmly on the side that will not use generative AI in the games, stay tuned to the Digital Extremes topic for further updates.
