Canva launches Canva AI 2.0 to simplify design and workplace workflows

New Delhi: Canva unveiled Canva AI 2.0, marking what the company calls its biggest product evolution since its launch in 2013. Announced at its Canva Create event in Los Angeles, the new update aims to make Canva not just a design tool, but a central platform for workplace productivity and collaboration.

The company said the new AI-powered suite is designed to help users move from idea to execution through a single conversational interface, making tasks such as campaign creation, research, scheduling, spreadsheets, and design easier and faster. Canva currently has more than 250 million monthly users globally.

A powerful new architecture layer

Canva AI 2.0 introduces a new architecture layer that changes how users create designs and work documents.

One of the key features is Conversational Design, which allows users to create fully editable designs using simple text prompts or voice dictation. Instead of starting with a blank page, users can simply describe what they want, and the platform generates a layout, structure, and design that can be edited further.

Another major addition is Agentic Orchestration, which helps the AI understand a user’s intent and automatically choose the right tools to complete a task. For example, users can ask Canva AI to create a multi-channel campaign plan, and it can generate different formats and assets in one workflow.

The update also includes Object-Based Intelligence, which enables more precise editing. Users can change only specific elements such as images, fonts, or headlines without affecting the rest of the design.

The company has also introduced Living Memory, a feature that learns user preferences over time and automatically keeps projects aligned with brand style and previous work patterns.

Intelligent new workflows

Canva AI 2.0 goes beyond design and brings productivity tools into the platform. With Connectors, users can integrate apps such as Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Notion and Zoom. This allows Canva AI to use information from emails, meetings, and documents to generate content such as newsletters, meeting summaries, and sales pitches.

The Scheduling feature automates repetitive work in the background, such as creating weekly social media posts or preparing daily briefing notes.

The company has also added Web Research, which gathers information from across the internet and turns it into editable content directly inside designs and documents. For brand teams, Brand Intelligence automatically applies brand colours, fonts, and style guidelines to every new design.

Other additions include Canva Code 2.0 with HTML importing, Sheets AI for AI-generated spreadsheets and Template Remix for endless template customisation.

A rapidly advancing frontier AI Lab

At the core of the new platform is Canva’s AI research division, which now has over 100 researchers working on multimodal AI models for design. The company said its AI models are now significantly faster and cheaper than comparable alternatives.

According to Canva, Proteus is 2x faster and 23x cheaper, Lucid Origin is 5x faster and 30x cheaper, and I2V is 7x faster and 17x cheaper.

Expanding across the AI ecosystem

Canva also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic, allowing its design tools to integrate directly with Claude.

The platform now also supports importing content from ChatGPT and Claude into Canva for editing and publishing. The company said this expansion reflects growing demand for AI-assisted content creation and editable workflow tools.

Starting April 16, Canva AI 2.0 will be rolled out as a research preview to the first one million users who access it from the Canva homepage, with wider access planned over the following weeks.
