Ubisoft shocked the world with what was a somewhat out-of-the-blue complete operational overhaul. The company revealed it was restructuring its development pipeline into content houses, while announcing its measures to get its pretty serious financial issues sorted.
The news came with several project delays and cancellations, among cries for trade union activity, and a stock market crash. We have a bit of a live blog feed of the shenanigans if you’re interested.
Among the news was what Ubisoft intended to do about its rather troublesome position. The publisher revealed that it would increase work on accelerating player-facing generative AI. It comes as part of the aim to make Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six and Far Cry billion-dollar games each year on top of increasing the production quality of its major games as part of its three-year plans.
The company said this was the plan as it underwent consulting over December and January, with many things changing on a whim, if Insider Gaming sources are to be believed.
AI appears in Ubisoft job openings
Well, a quick browsing of the Ubisoft careers page would have you believe there might be some truth to that. Ubisoft is hiring for at least three major positions reflecting machine learning and AI programmer pipelining and tool development.
Several of the job postings include JSON key names corroborating Ubisoft’s drive for accelerated AI investment, buried within the job posting HTML documents. If you’re nerdy, you can inspect any job posting on Ubisoft’s career page and inspect the HTML by typing in “createdAt.” It will give you a rough date and timestamp of when that job listing was created on Ubisoft’s site. There’s one Senior AI Applications role with a focus on making AI systems for production that was posted on January 6th, for example.
Other job postings seem to indicate other creation dates during the consulting phase, too. One machine learning role under the Content Creation Technology Group department has the createdAt key value of December 11th, 2025.
These are the only roles currently available at Ubisoft dedicated to AI or AI architecture roles. Note that the roles are about setting up internal systems, rather than using popular AI models already on the market. It seems likely that Ubisoft are building their own internal pipelines and workflows, similar to what Larian announced with Swen and the Machine Learning head stating in their recent Reddit AMA.
Other roles related to specific art, programming and other systems mention nothing of AI in their contract roles. Though, some very specific roles, such as a Senior Rainbow Six concept artist posted December 22, does mention adapting to new tools and pipelines. It could indicate some plan for some staff members to use some of Ubisoft’s new tools. Whether it’s an AI, ML or more traditional tool remains to be seen.
It’s a sign of the way major publishing and development studios are going. Machine learning and AI will be baked into most game engines at some point, whether public or internal engines. Team members will be using AI, whether for full asset creation or for AI assistants to help staff members refine or improve ideas for them.
Right now, Ubisoft does not seem to be deliberately using Gen AI in serious capacity, especially if they have departments focusing on internal tools and machine learning usage. After all, Ubi did apologize for one bit of Gen AI that made it into Anno 117 during its launch day build.
