“The Campaign to End Single Use Data” for NetApp, by Fight or Flight
Silver: Best Thought Leadership Program
Data fuels technology. The more technology we use, the more data we consume. When we’re no longer using apps, or laughing at memes, the data is no longer needed. It becomes waste. That’s a big problem because data centers consume a lot of power and, if most of that data is useless, it means we are using all that power for nothing. The environmental impact of this is huge. How could NetApp, which helps companies manage their data, warn UK businesses about the true cost of data waste?
Fight or Flight worked with NetApp to reframe the issue by borrowing the emotive language of the environmental lobby to give data waste a more provocative name: single-use data. Fight or Flight produced its own research, showing that two-thirds of all company data is single-use – the environmental equivalent of producing 15 billion plastic bottles. The campaign generated 41 pieces of earned coverage in business and national media. The story was told in an Amazon Prime documentary and brought on stage at London TechWeek. Thanks to this campaign, single-use data is no longer technology’s dirty secret.
“Let’s Share the Sun: Powering Energy Equity Together” by Wood Mackenzie
Gold: Best Purpose-Led Initiative
Since 2021, Wood Mackenzie has partnered with Let’s Share the Sun to bring clean, reliable solar energy and storage solutions to underserved communities in Puerto Rico. This campaign helps fulfil Wood Mackenzie’s objective of transforming the way the planet is powered, whilst addressing urgent global energy equity challenges.
Over four years, the initiative has installed 250+ solar panels, providing energy independence to over 30 vulnerable households and three domestic violence shelters, directly protecting residents’ safety and wellbeing. In 2024 alone, the system as Casa Julia shelter prevented 36 blackouts and saved $5,000 in energy costs.
Telling the story of these installations and the people impacted spotlights energy insecurity and our commitment to being part of the solution. What began as a hands-on volunteer project has evolved into an integrated marketing campaign raising over $240,000, engaging over 100 employee volunteers and fundraisers, and growing global participation annually. It is activated through professional storytelling, social-first content, earned media and event marketing, including the Solar & Energy Storage Summit. Executive leaders champion the initiative across the business, endorsing volunteers, approving funding and showcasing impact to the board and stakeholders. Volunteers from the business’ global offices embed purpose internally, becoming advocates who amplify the mission across teams, clients and communities.
“Fuel for Thought” for Lloyd’s Register, by Marketbridge (previously Revere)
Gold: Best Thought Leadership program, Silver: Most Commercially Successful Campaign
As the maritime sector faces greater pressure to decarbonize, Lloyd’s Register recognized a social and environmental responsibility to lead the conversation and support progress. Despite its technical credibility, LR lacked visibility and relevance in the energy transition debate, so they needed to move from a reactive compliance body to a pro-active, purpose-driven partner.
“Fuel for Thought” was launched to fulfil this ambition, combining a powerful creative concept with robust insight. Using expert-authored reports, video, SEO content and targeted activation, the campaign helped industry decision-makers make better, lower-carbon choices. This campaign has since generated 3,500+ content downloads, 185,000+ video views and driven £8.6 million in revenue.
