Five ways global governments put AI to work

Australian government use of AI is widespread, but our public service has much to learn from practical examples of AI use around the globe.

While 83% of Australian public sector respondents are using AI at work, according to the Mandarin/Liquid Let’s get real about AI survey of public sector attitudes to artificial intelligence in government, 55% of respondents identify automating internal tasks and workflows as their organisation’s primary focus for AI.

This demonstrates how widespread government use of AI has become, as further documented in the AI and Data for Better Governance Survey, which is part of the 2026 World Bank’s Development Report.
