Google launches AI Edge Eloquent for offline, real-time dictation on iOS

In a move that strengthens its footprint in AI-powered productivity tools, Google has introduced a new dictation app called AI Edge Eloquent. Designed for iOS users, the app focuses on converting speech into refined, usable text in real time—even without an internet connection.

The app leverages Google’s Gemma AI models to perform on-device speech recognition, allowing users to dictate content seamlessly while offline. This capability positions AI Edge Eloquent as a strong contender in the increasingly competitive transcription space, especially for users who prioritize privacy and uninterrupted functionality.

According to its App Store description, the app is an “advanced dictation app engineered to bridge the gap between natural speech and professional, ready-to-use text.”

It further added that, “unlike standard dictation software that transcribes stumbles and filler words verbatim, Eloquent uses AI to capture your intended meaning. It automatically edits out ‘ums’, ‘uhs’ and mid-sentence self-corrections, outputting clean, accurate prose.”

Unlike traditional dictation tools, which often produce raw transcripts filled with hesitations and corrections, AI Edge Eloquent focuses on delivering polished text. As users speak, the app displays live transcription instantly. When a pause is detected, it refines the content by removing filler words like “um” and “ah,” resulting in clearer and more professional output.

While offline functionality is a key highlight, users can also enable cloud-based processing for enhanced results. When connected, the app integrates with Gemini models to further refine the text. This hybrid approach gives users flexibility—whether they want complete on-device privacy or more advanced processing through the cloud.

Another notable feature is personalization. The app can incorporate keywords, names, and jargon from Gmail, helping tailor transcription to individual needs. Users can also manually add custom words, ensuring better accuracy for industry-specific language or frequently used terms.

AI Edge Eloquent also includes practical tools to improve usability. It keeps a history of transcription sessions, allowing users to revisit and search past dictations. Additionally, it provides insights such as total words spoken and words-per-minute speed, offering a productivity-oriented experience.

The app comes with several formatting options, enabling users to structure their text as “Key points,” “Formal,” “Short,” or “Long.” This makes it useful not just for note-taking, but also for drafting emails, documents, or summaries quickly.

Currently, AI Edge Eloquent is available exclusively on iOS devices running iOS 16 or later. It is also compatible with Macs powered by Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and devices running visionOS 1.0 or above. An Android version is expected to arrive in the future, according to the listing.
