ATO issues agency-wide guidance on AI authorised use, liability

The Australian Taxation Office has issued fresh guidance to all employees on the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace, including its rapid evolution to help draft briefs for ministers and other senior officials.

As major corporates and parts of government continue to struggle to regulate the shadow introduction of AI into the workplace, including at least two tribunals and decision-making bodies, the ATO is telling staff to lean in and get on top of the new technology, but to remain within strict governance and usage guardrails.
