Orange Côte d’Ivoire has organized its annual Compliance Day since 2012 to promote ethical standards, strengthen corporate governance and encourage responsible business practices.

The telecommunications operator held the 14th edition of its “Orange Ethics & Compliance Days” on Tuesday, October 27, bringing together experts to discuss compliance, business ethics and good governance.

This year’s event focused on “Ethics in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” The initiative aimed to strengthen corruption prevention, promote professional standards and encourage responsible AI adoption.

During the discussions, speakers highlighted the need for clear safeguards governing AI use. They particularly emphasized the risks associated with confidential data exposure and inaccurate AI-generated information.

Fitzgerald BONY, Deputy Director of Innovation, AI and Digitalization at Orange Côte d’Ivoire, described artificial intelligence as a major opportunity for governments and businesses, provided organizations establish adequate oversight.

“Artificial intelligence represents a tremendous opportunity for our states, our countries and our businesses. We must therefore embrace it. However, we must do so responsibly by establishing a framework, governance mechanisms and a strategy that allow us to benefit from the technology’s opportunities while protecting our customers and organizations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Christophe BOA, a governance, risk and compliance expert, stressed the importance of verifying AI-generated content before distributing it.

“AI provides solutions, guidance and ideas, but you must always verify the accuracy of its results and add your own input before sharing documents,” he advised.

Orange launched its Compliance Day initiative in 2012 to promote ethical conduct and professional best practices. The annual event supports national efforts to strengthen governance and brings together employees, service providers, suppliers and senior management.

Participants address key compliance issues, including corruption prevention, conflicts of interest and adherence to corporate governance principles.

Through the initiative, Orange Côte d’Ivoire aims to embed compliance practices across its operations, raise awareness among employees and business partners, and reinforce the standards and requirements that suppliers must meet to work with the company.

The annual event also comes as Côte d’Ivoire intensifies efforts to improve governance in the public and private sectors and combat corruption.

The government has introduced several institutional measures, including the establishment of the High Authority for Good Governance and the Economic and Financial Criminal Court.

According to Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index, Côte d’Ivoire scored 43 out of 100 and ranked 78th among 182 countries.
